Born Gerhart Albert Arnold Wychodil on April 15, 1923  and from 1956 until his retirement, he scored music for more than 50 feature films in numerous genres. However, he is perhaps best known for his music for erotic films in the 1970s, especially the Schulmädchen Report (Schoolgirl Report) series. Wilden was married to former actress and singer Trude Hofmeister and the father of composer Gert Wilden Jr. [1960- ]. Gert was the composer for one Euro-western “Black Eagle of Santa Fe (1964) starring Brad Harris, Horst Frank and Tony Kendall.

Italian actor Franco Interlenghi who starred in some of Italy’s best pictures of the 1950s died at his home in Rome September 10th. Interlenghi was born on October 29, 1931 in Rome and was directed by such directors as Manuel De Sica, Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini and Mauro Bolognini. His only Euro-western appearance was as Hank Sebanek in 1978’s China 9, Liberty 37.

Many have passed away, and while we are young growing up re-watching all these classics, many more will probably leave us. May they be remembered. British stage, film and TV actor Alex Giannini died October 2nd in Plymouth, England of natural causes only an hour before he was to take the stage in Mack and Mabel at the Theatre Royal. He was 52. Born in Rome in 1963, Giannini was married to Jennifer Secombe the daughter of actor Harry Secombe. Giannini using the alias Alex Richardson, appeared as Sheriff Dan Johnson in the 1991 Euro-western The Ballad of Kid Divine.

British director John Guillermin, who directed such big budget films as Towering Inferno and King Kong died at his Los Angeles, California home on September 27th. He was 89. Born in London on November 11, 1925, Guillermin directed El Condor with Lee Van Cleef and Jim Brown.

Noted Canadian artist and singer Michael Burgess died in Toronto, Canada on September 28th, following a battle with cancer. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada on July 22, 1945, Burgess was best known for his role in the Toronto production of Les Misérables where he played the character of Jean Valjean 1,000 times in duration of the production. The yearlong production opened at Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre on March 15, 1989. Burgess appeared in two Euro-western TV series: ‘The Campbells’ as Mr. Davis and ‘Bordertown’ as Arthur Hunnington both in 1990.

Italian director, screenwriter Mario Caino died in Rome, in his sleep on September 20th. He was 82. Caiano was born in Rome on February 13, 1933 and was the son of producer Carlo Caiano. Caiano directed and wrote screenplays for 11 Euro-westerns such as “Bullets Don’t Argue” (1964) which will forever be linked with the success of Sergio Leone’s “Fistful of Dollars”, “The Sign of Zorro (1962), “A Coffin for the Sheriff” (1965), “Ringo, the Face of Revenge” (1966), “A Train for Durango” (1967) and “Shangai Joe”. Caiano used such aliases as Allen Grünewald, William Hawkins, Nick Jordan and Mike Perkins. He was most active in the 1960s and ‘70s in peplum, westerns, police and adventure films.
