• Flawed attempt to capitalize on the huge success of the five Winnetou films produced since 1962; in lieu of Pierre Brice and Lex Barker as heroic blood brothers Winnetou and Old Shatterhand, The Last Tomahawk features Daniel Martín and Anthony Steffen as Uncas and Hawkeye, respectively. To emphasize its close connection to the Winnetou series, the film transposes the setting of James Fenimore Cooper’s novel The Last of the Mohicans from the American Northeast to the Southwest and from the eighteenth to the nineteenth century.
