This page is our personal hall of fame. A reminder to us all that even though considered a B-genre, Spaghetti Westerns were full of great characters, played by great people. Many have passed away, and while we are young growing up re-watching all these classics, many more will probably leave us. May they be remembered. German actor Fritz Wepper died in Munich, Germany on March 25, 2024. He was 82. He started his acting career in a production of Peter Pan at the age of eleven. He got his first important film role in Tischlein deck dich, a film adaption of the Brothers Grimm fairytale The Wishing Table. Fritz is best known for his role as Inspector Harry Klein in the long-running crime series ‘Derrick’ (1974–1998). Wepper is also remembered for his roles in the films “Cabaret” (1972) and “The Bridge” (1959) and as Mayor Wöller in the TV series ‘Um Himmels Willen’ (2002–2021). Wepper appeared in one Euro-western as Tampico in the 1963 television production of “Ein Sheriff für den Sarg”.


Brazilian actress Esmerlinda Barros has died she just celebrated her 75th birthday on September 4. Born in Ilhéus, Bahia, Brazil, a mulatto, Esmerlinda started as a dancer in the nightclub shows of Carlos Machado aka "The King of the Night". She appeared in the local Renaissance Club’s beauty contest in 1964 where the winner goes on to appear in the Miss Brazil contest. Many feel she finished second in the Renaissance Club contest because of her professional status as a performer. Barros attracted enough attention to be offered film roles in Brazilian and Italian films and television novellos. While in Italy she was called Esmeralda Barros and appeared in six Euro-westerns but her most remembered role was as Eva the savage jungle girl in "Kong Island" (1968) with Brad Harris. Later she appeared in the July 1976 edition of the Brazilian Playboy. After her career ended she returned to Brazil and as of 2011 was a grandmother and living happily in Rio de Janeiro. Esmeralda appeared in eight Euro-westerns: “Run, Man, Run” (1967) as a waitress; “And for a Roof a Sky Full of Stars” (1968); “God May Forgive You, Not Me” (1968) as Conchita; “Django’s Cut Rate Corpses” (1971) as Pilar; “A Man Called Django!”  (1971) as Lola; “Paid in Blood” (1971) as Zelda; “God is My Colt .45” (1972) as Paquita and
“Where the Bullets Fly” also 1972 (as a whore)

French singer, actor and voice dubber Daniel Beretta died on March 23rh. He was 77. Beretta was born on December 24, 1946 in Audincourt, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France. He started his career as a Chanson Singer-Songwriter, having given several concerts at the Olympia and Bobino concert halls and wrote several songs for the likes of Mireille Mathieu and Nino Ferrer. He also notably adapted and performed songs for the French version of “Jesus Christ Superstar” as well as the stage adaptation of “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg”. Having trained as a musician also allowed him to sing in his animation dubs (such as Lumière's music numbers in “Beauty and the Beast”, again). He dubbed Arnold Schwarzenegger in the French versions of all his films since 1987. Daniel was also the announcer for the French radio RFM from 2000 to 2008. His daughter, Barbara Beretta, is also a professional voice actress. He quietly retired for health reasons in the early 2020s. Daniel Beretta appeared in one Euro-western “In the Dust of the Sun” in 1971 as Hawk Bradford.


American actor and humorist Marshall Efron died from cardiac arrest at the Lillian Booth Actors Home in Englewood, N.J. on September 30, 2019. He was 81. He was originally known for his work on the listener-sponsored Pacifica radio stations WBAI New York and KPFK Los Angeles, and later for the PBS television show The Great American Dream Machine (the original showcase of Chevy Chase). Efron also produced features of his own such as A Satirical View. Marshal Efron was also the author of a number of children's works such as Bible Stories You Can't Forget: No Matter How Hard You Try. He also starred in the Sunday-morning television program Marshall Efron's Illustrated, Simplified, and Painless Sunday School on CBS from 1973 to 1977. Efron appeared in one Euro-western as the Mexican bartender in the opening cantina scene in 1971’s ‘Doc’ starring Stacy Keach and Faye Dunaway.

Culver attended Gresham's School in Holt, North Norfolk, UK, then went on to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Culver was married to actress Lucinda Curtis from 1962-1986, they have two sons, Roderic (an actor), and Justin, and a daughter, Sue.  He is currently married to actress Amanda Ward. German voice actor and actor Bernd Rumpf, who voiced Alan Rickman and Liam Neeson, died on October 4, 2019. He was 72 years old. Actually, he was never a fan of dubbed films, but then he himself became one of Germany's most famous voice actor. Bernd Rumpf was best known for his work as a German voice in the "Harry Potter" films, in the role of Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) and in numerous films with Liam Neeson. Bernd was the German voice of Michael Tylo in the 1990-1992 TV series ‘The New Zorro’ starring Duncan Regehr.

Veteran American actor Malachy McCourt died in a Manhattan hospital on March 11th he was 92. Malachy Gerard McCourt was born in New York City on September 20, 1931. He was an American actor and writer of Irish ancestry. McCourt was the 2006 Green Party candidate for governor of New York, losing to the Democratic candidate Eliot Spitzer. He was the younger brother of author Frank McCourt [1930-2009]. Raised in Limerick, Ireland he acted on stage, on TV and in various films. These included “The Molly Maguires”, “Beyond the Pale”, “Ash Wednesday” and he also used to make an annual festive appearance in’ All My Children’ as Father Clarence. Malachy appeared in one Euro-western in an uncredited role in 1976’s “Montana Trap” aka “Potato Frits” with Hardy Krüger and Stephen Boyd.
Czechoslovakian pop singer Karel Gott, who became a star behind the Iron Curtain, has died. He was 80. Gott died late Tuesday October 1, 2019 at his home in Prague after battling a long illness, his wife Ivana said in a statement. Gott recently announced he had acute leukemia. Gott released some 300 albums starting in the 1960s and sold tens of millions of copies in his country, the Soviet Union and elsewhere in the Communist world. But he was also a rare example of a pop singer from Eastern Europe whose music became popular in some Western European countries, especially in West Germany. "The golden voice from Prague" as Gott was called in that country, had one of the biggest hits there with "Maya the Bee" ("Die Biene Maja" in German), the title song from a 1970s cartoon television series. Gott appeared or was heard in three Euro-weterns:  Karel Gott: Zdvorilý Woody (TV) - 1963 (Woody); Revue pro banjo – 1963 where he also sings duet “Nestálá láska (Careless Love)”; Lemonade Joe – 1964 sings: “Oh Ye Gods, What a Dime Drink”.

Italian theater, film and TV actor Gigio Morra died at his home in Naples, Italy on March 10th. He was 78. Born in Naples on August 26, 1945. He graduated in 1966 from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Naples. He made his debut in theater with Eduardo De Filippo, with whom he worked from 1970 to 1980. As a character actor, he was present in about twenty films including his only Spaghetti western “Arrapaho” in 1984 in the role of Pierpaolo.

Born in Poblenou, Barcelona, Cataluna, Spain in 1938 she made her film debut at the age of 20 in “La muralla” (1958) directed by Luis Lucia. She would go on to appear in more than 60 film and television series. In the 1980s she turned to the theater and even started her own company ‘Romea Theater’. Padovan was also very active as a voice dubber and was best remembered as the voice of Roseanne Barr in the TV series “Roseanne”. She appeared in two Euro-westerns; “Ruthless Colt of the Gringo” 1965 in the role of Lois Duvall and “The Secret of Captain O'Hara” (1966) in the role of(Mary McQueen/Mary MacQuint.
Italian director and screenwriter Roberto Leoni died in Rome on March 5, 2024. He was 83. Leoni scripted more than seventy films some of which have become real cult movies such as “Santa Sangre” (1989) by Alejandro Jodorowsky and “My Dear Killer” (1972) by Tonino Valerii. He also wrote and directed TV films. Beginning in August 2017 he reviewed new and classic movies on his talk show ‘Roberto Leoni Movie Reviews’. Leoni was co-writer of the 1977 Spaghetti western “California” starring Giuliano Gemma and William Berger.

He was 68.  Obregón was born in Montélimar, Rhone-Alpes, France on October 28, 1951. He was the son of painter Alejandro Obregón and choreographer Sonia Osorio. Rodrigo appeared in two Euro-westerns: “Django Strikes Again” as a henchman of 'El Diablo' Orlowsky played by Chrisstopher Connelly and as  Kaspar in 1994s’ “Jonathan of the Bears” starring Franco Nero.
Italian actor and voice dubber Angelo Nicotra died in Rome on March 8th. He was 75. He was the brother of the director Giancarlo Nicotra. Angelo made his screen debut as a child actor in the 1950s. He was better known for his dubbing and was the official voice of American actor Morgan Freeman after the retirement of Renato Mori. He was also the voice of Mr. Potato in the four “Toy Story” films. Nicotra was the Italian voice of Simón Andreu in 1971’s “Bad Man’s River; Chris Chitell in 1971’s “They Call Him Cemetery”; Pedro Sanchez in 1972’s “My Horse, My Gun, Your Widow; Alberto Dell’Acqua in 1972’s “Panhandle .38”; Antonio Marsina in 1976’s “Keoma” and Walter Lucchini in 1981’s “Buddy Goes West”.

Italian acrobat, stuntman, actor Roberto Dell’Acqua died in Rome, Italy on September 16, 2019. He was 73 years old. Born into a family of circus people he worked as an acrobat along with his older brothers and later transformed this talent into a career as a stuntman in films and television. He also appeared as a supporting actor in over 60 films. Sometimes billed as Robert Stevenson and Leo Widmark he appeared in over 20 Euro-westerns from “Killer Caliber .32” in 1967 to  “Buck at the Edge of Heaven” in 1991. The Italian film industry put his natural talents as an acrobat to good us as Robert was usually seen as a saloon and barroom brawler, while playing henchmen soldiers and deputies in most of the westerns he appeared.  Some of his better known Euro-westerns included “Boot Hill” (1969), “Have a Nice Funeral My Friend” (1970); “Trinity is STILL My Name” (1971); “Shanghai Joe” (1973); “The Son of Zorro” (1973); “Keoma” (1975) and “Buddy Goes West”.
