This page is our personal hall of fame. A reminder to us all that even though considered a B-genre, Spaghetti Westerns were full of great characters, played by great people. Many have passed away, and while we are young growing up re-watching all these classics, many more will probably leave us. May they be remembered. What follows, is a work-in-progress, a growing list of legends who have passed away...

British cinematographer Robin Browne passed away at his home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan on March 28, 2024. He was born Michael Robin Graham Browne in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England on November 24, 1941. , was a cinematographer specializing in aerial photography and special effects. His father was Bernard Browne, a director of photography who worked with Alexander Korda at Denham studios. A few of the films he worked on were: “Battle of Britain” (1969); “Catch 22” (1970); t”A Bridge Too Far” (1977); “Krull” (1983); “A Passage to India” (1984); “The Jewel of the Nile” (1985); “King Kong Lives” (1986); “Gorillas in the Mist” (1988). Browne worked as a model unit director and cameraman on the 1986 Euro-western “Sky Bandits”.


David S. Cass Sr., a top stunt coordinator of the 1980s and 1990s, who segued to a directing career, died August 28 in Woodland Hills, California of complications from cancer. He was 78. Cass began his movie career as an extra. He transitioned to alternating between acting parts and stunt work, starting with the 1963 John Wayne film McLintock!, on which he performed stunts. He went on to become a sought-after stunt coordinator and second unit director with such credits as Smokey and the Bandit Part 3, Knight Rider 2000, Walker, Texas Ranger and the Desperado TV movie franchise. He directed the 2002 German, U.S.A. co-produced TV western film ‘Johnson County War’ starring Tom Berenger and Burt Reynolds.

Veteran German actor and voice dubber Eckart Dux died in Sassenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany on April 9th he was 97. Born Eckart Herman Dux in Berlin on December 19, 1926. Dux completed his training as an actor with Else Bongers in Berlin and made his stage debut in 1948 at the city's Renaissance Theatre. He then had numerous roles on the Berlin stage and in theatres in Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Stuttgart. He also had many roles as a character actor in film and television. From 1949, he became the longest active German-speaking voice actor, dubbing Hollywood films into German. In the 1950s and 1960s he was regularly the German voice of Audie Murphy. He also dubbed Anthony Perkins in many roles including Psycho, Steve Martin, Fred Astaire, George Peppard (in the action series The A-Team) and Jerry Stiller. He has also worked as an actor and narrator on radio and audio books. Dux was married to the actress Gisela Peltzer in the 1950s, and then later to the editor Marlies Dux [1945- ] in 1970. Dux’s work in Euro-westerns consisted of appearing as Jimmy in the 1964 TV western film ‘Prairie Saloon’ and he was the German voice of Mark Damon in “Ringo’s Golden Pistol” and Phillippe Leroy in “Yankee” both in 1966. Brad Harris in “Rattler Kid” 1967, George Hilton in 1968’s “The Ruthless Four”, Christian Duroc, J. P. Compain the 1969 TV mini-series “The Leatherstocking Tales”. He was Dean Reeds voice in “Adios, Sabata” and the voice of Lucky Luke in both the animated “Lucky Luke: Ballad of the Daltons” in 1978 and “Lucky Luke: The Daltons on the Run” in 1983 and as Sam Hawkens in 2009’s “WinneToons - Die Legende vom Schatz im Silbersee”.


Italian producer, director, screenwriter Augusto Carminito died in Naples, Campania, Italy on August 23, 2020. He was 81. He was born on July 1, 1939 in Naples. A producer and director he was best known for producing “King of New York” (1990), directing “Grandi cacciatori” (1990) and as a writer for “The Vatican Affair” (1968).  To the fans of the Euro-western he was best know as a screenwriter. He co-wrote the scripts for eight Euro-westerns: “Halleluja for Django” and “Long Days of Revenge” both (1966); “Death Rides Along”; “Django, the Last Killer”; “Pecos Cleans Up”; “Poker With Pistols” and
“The Ruthless Four” all in 1967 and “Brothers Blue” (1971).

Thus, he moved to the Aztec capital where he studied acting at the National Institute of Fine Arts. Although he had musical interests, he discarded them because he considered that he did not have enough preparation. He made his film debut in 1967 with the film “Los caifanes”, where his performance as El Azteca which earned him the national Silver Goddess Award. Subsequently, he would obtain other awards and recognitions such as the Ariel. Ernesto’s only Euro-western was as the witch in 2006’s “Bandidas” with Penélope Cruz and Salma Hayek.


Spanish actor Manuel Gallardo Lechet died in Madrid, Spain on August 21, 2020. He was 85. Born in Cardeña, Córdoba, Andalucía, Spain on May 3, 1935, Gallardo made his name mainly as a stage actor but also appeared in some 40 films and television series such as ‘Verano azul’. He was married to actress María Jesús Lara and was the father of actress Nuria Gallardo. Manuel appeared in one Euro-westerns as Captain Burton in 1973’s “Another Try, Eh Providence?”

Fritz is best known for his role as Inspector Harry Klein in the long-running crime series ‘Derrick’ (1974–1998). Wepper is also remembered for his roles in the films “Cabaret” (1972) and “The Bridge” (1959) and as Mayor Wöller in the TV series ‘Um Himmels Willen’ (2002–2021). Wepper appeared in one Euro-western as Tampico in the 1963 television production of “Ein Sheriff für den Sarg”.


Mexican actress of the Golden Era of Mexican films, singer and stage director Monica Miguel died early on the morning of August 12, 2020 in Mexico City, Mexico. She was 81. Born on March 13, 1938 in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico, in pursuit of her artistic dreams on the stage, she traveled to Mexico City, there She studied theater at the academy of the Asociación Nacional de Actores. Encouraged by colleagues, she traveled to Japan and then Italy, where she worked in film, theater, and television. There she recorded her first album. Her eight-year stay in Rome gave her maturity as a human being and as an artist. She gave recitals in Greece, Cyprus, and England. After her return to Mexico, for her performances at the Insurgentes theater, in the works Vine, ví y mejor me fuí and La maestra bebe un poco, she received an award from the Unión de cronistas de Teatro (Union of Theater Critics). In 1981 she performed in "The Merry Wives of Windsor" together with Alfredo Sevilla, Tara Parra Chela Nájera among others. In 1981, the Mexican Association of Theater Critics named her best actress and singer for her performance in Man of La Mancha.  In the 1980s she entered the world of television, first as an actress in soap operas such as Amalia Batista, Abandonada and Yesenia. He started his career as a Chanson Singer-Songwriter, having given several concerts at the Olympia and Bobino concert halls and wrote several songs for the likes of Mireille Mathieu and Nino Ferrer. He also notably adapted and performed songs for the French version of “Jesus Christ Superstar” as well as the stage adaptation of “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg”. Having trained as a musician also allowed him to sing in his animation dubs (such as Lumière's music numbers in “Beauty and the Beast”, again). He dubbed Arnold Schwarzenegger in the French versions of all his films since 1987. Daniel was also the announcer for the French radio RFM from 2000 to 2008. His daughter, Barbara Beretta, is also a professional voice actress. He quietly retired for health reasons in the early 2020s. Daniel Beretta appeared in one Euro-western “In the Dust of the Sun” in 1971 as Hawk Bradford.
 
Italian supporting actor Nando Angelini died in Pescara, Italy on August 7, 2020. He was he would have turned 87 on August 17th. Born Ferdinando Angelini, he first appeared on screen in the 1958 film “Il segreto delle rose” directed by Albino Principe. He would continue to act in films until the late 1960's, making over 80. During this time he appeared in six Euro-westerns including his biggest role as George in “Colorado Charlie” using the alias Fernand Angels. He was also billed under the aliases Nick Angel. Most of his parts were character roles as henchmen and gang members. His Euro-westerns include: “A Dollar of Fear” 1960 (Spiritual); “The Magnificent Three” 1961 (bandit leader); “Colorado Charlie” 1965 (George); “Mutiny at Fort Sharp” 1965 (Confederate soldier);‘Questa sera parla Mark Twain’ (TV) 1965 (Steve); “Renegade Gunfighter” 1965 and
“A Golden Sheriff” 1966 (town official).

American actor of French and Spanish decent Reni Santoni died on August 1, 2020 he was 81. Born in New York City on April 21, 1939, he began his acting career appearing in Off-Broadway theater. His first significant film role was an uncredited appearance in the 1964 film “The Pawnbroker” (starring Rod Steiger), in which he played a junkie trying to sell a radio to the title character. He’s probably best remember as Chico, Dirty Harry Callahan’s partner in “Dirty Harry” (1971) starring Clint Eastwood. His steady career employment, however, has been on the small screen. His 1970s series work consisted of ably assisting such crimefighters as "Owen Marshall, Counselor at Law" and "Matt Houston. Decades later Santoni received great attention from newer generations of audiences in his occasionally hilarious recurring role as "Poppie" the unsanitary restaurateur on "Seinfeld." Rene appeared as Max in the Euro-western “Guns of the Magnificent Seven” (1969) starring George Kennedy and Michael Ansara.

He started his career as a Chanson Singer-Songwriter, having given several concerts at the Olympia and Bobino concert halls and wrote several songs for the likes of Mireille Mathieu and Nino Ferrer. He also notably adapted and performed songs for the French version of “Jesus Christ Superstar” as well as the stage adaptation of “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg”. Having trained as a musician also allowed him to sing in his animation dubs (such as Lumière's music numbers in “Beauty and the Beast”, again). He dubbed Arnold Schwarzenegger in the French versions of all his films since 1987. Daniel was also the announcer for the French radio RFM from 2000 to 2008. His daughter, Barbara Beretta, is also a professional voice actress. He quietly retired for health reasons in the early 2020s. Daniel Beretta appeared in one Euro-western “In the Dust of the Sun” in 1971 as Hawk Bradford.
