South African actor, director and acting coach Greg Melvill-Smith died at his Johannesburg, South African home from pancreatic cancer on May 31, 2016. He was 55. Born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1961 Greg completed a National Diploma in Drama at Pretoria Technikon in 1984. He joined the Loft Theatre Company at NAPAC in 1985 and spent three years with this innovative group. In 1988 he moved to Johannesburg and began his freelance career where he appeared in over 54 professional theatre productions, playing both lead and support characters.
He played substantial roles in over ten major television series including ‘Wild at Heart’ for the Hallmark Channel and ‘Black Sails’ for Starz Productions.
Greg appeared in numerous films, including “Mr. Bones”, “Drum”, “The Bang Bang Club” and “Night Drive”.
Greg appeared in two Euo-westerns: ‘Guns of Honor’ (TV) (1993) as Haze and “Hooded Angels” (2000) as the Confederate General.

Many have passed away, and while we are young growing up re-watching all these classics, many more will probably leave us. May they be remembered. Israeli actor Aharon Ipalé, who took part in a long list of British and American productions and played alongside some of Hollywood’s greatest stars, passed away on Monday at age 74. Ipalé died in Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer after battling cancer for his last few months. Born in Meknes, Morocco on December 27, 1941, his family moved to Israel when he was only 2. He’s probably best known for his role as Pharoah Seti in “The Mummy” (1999) and “The Mummy Returns” (2001) he also appeared as Singer in the 1970 Euro-western Madron with Richard Boone and Leslie Caron.

Carlo Pedersoli, Olympic swimmer in two Olympics, Italian swimming record holder, composer, aviator, actor,writer, husband, father and a charismatic face in the Spaghetti western genre died in Rome today June 27th. He was 86. Pedersoli took the alias Bud Spencer from his favorite beer and his favorite actor Spencer Tracy. He appeared in 12 Euro-western accompanied by his comic partner Terence Hill and several other documentaries and TV appearances. He'll always be remembered as the Giant with a Heart of Gold. Adios Bud and thanks for all the laughs and fun.

One of Germany’s biggest action stars Götz George died unexpectedly on June 19 in Hamburg, Germany. He was 77. Götz has already been buried in Hamburg according to his agent. The place and cause of death has not been divulged. Born in Berlin on July 23, 1938, George was best known for his 32 appearances as Kommissar Horst Schimanski on the German TV series Tatort. He was the son of the famous actor Heinrich George and his wife, the actress Berta Drews and the brother of actor Jan George. He appeared in over 130 films since 1953 among which were six Euro-westerns: The Treasure of Silver Lake – 1962 (Fred Engel), Frontier Hellcat - 1964 (Martin Baumann Jr.), The Man Called Gringo – 1965 (Sheriff Mace Carson),The Half-Breed - 1966 (Jeff Brown), Auf den Spuren Winnetous – 2004 [himself] and the upcoming TV Winnetou Trilogy 2016.


  • BIONDI, Lidia - 5/16/1942, Livorno, Tuscany, Italy - 6/14/2016, Rome, Lazio, Italy

Italian film, television actress and director died in Rome on June 14th. Lidia was born in Livorno, Tuscany on May 16, 1942. She started her acting career in the late 1960 and is best known for her appearances in “Danger: Diabolik” (1968) “Letters to Juliet” (2010), “Casanova” (2005) and “Eat Pray Love”. (2010). In the late 1970 she turned to television and in the 1990s directing. Biondi appeared in only two Euro-westerns: “Death at Owell Rock” (1966) as Mrs. Gilbert/Muhler and “Gunman of 100 Crosses” (1971).


  • FANFONI, Vittorio - 1944, Piazenza, Emilia-Romagna, Italy - 6/11/2016, Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Italian film and television actor Vittorio Fanfoni died in Piacenza, Italy on June 12th. He was 72. Fanfoni was born in Piacenza in 1944 and always dreamed of becoming an actor and starring in films with great directors. Instead he settled for a long career in B-movies starting in 1968 and little more than a decade in 1979 he returned home. During that stretch he appeared in over 90 films and TV series. Among which were 21 Euro-westerns including: “Django Kill.. Kill First”,”Trinity is STILL My Name”, “Return of Sabata”, “Joe Dakota” (all 1971), “The Return of Clint the Stranger” (1972), “The Genius” (1975) and “Macho Killers” (1977).


  • PALMER, Dick (Domenico Palmara) - 7/25/1928, Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy – 6/10/2016, Rome, Lazio, Italy

Dick Palmer aka Mimmo Palmara (Domenico Palmara) died in Rome, Italy on June 10. He was 87. Born in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy on July 25, 1928, he was one of the great faces of the Italian Peplums and Spaghetti Westerns. Plamara usually played villains and was an excellent horseman. He doubled Steve Reeves in several sword and sandal films after Steve injured his shoulder. Because of his size he was easily cast as a protagonist opposite the large American actors. As Dick Palmer he was seen in 17 Euro-westerns among which were "Bullets Don't Argue" (1964), "Johnny West" (1965), "The Handsome, the Ugly, the Stupid", "Shotgun (both 1967), "Black Jack" (1968), "A Long Ride from Hell" (1968), "The Deserter" "Panhandle Calibre .38" (both 1971).
