He was an actor in a number of feature films, the chief of which was the TV drama ‘Long Road in the Dunes’. He appeared as Natt Bumppo in the 1987 Euro-western “Sledopyt” (The Pathfinder).

Many have passed away, and while we are young growing up re-watching all these classics, many more will probably leave us. May they be remembered. Latvian actor, director, former Rīga councilor and head of the Latvian National Opera Andrejs Žagars (1958-2019) passed away on February 26, 2019 in Riga, Latvia after a long illness. Born on October 16, 1958 in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, U.S.S.R. He led the Latvian National Opera from 1996 to 2013. An actor by trade, he worked at the Dailes Theater until 1994. He was an actor in a number of feature films, the chief of which was the TV drama ‘Long Road in the Dunes’. He appeared as Natt Bumppo in the 1987 Euro-western “Sledopyt” (The Pathfinder).

American production manager Clifton Brandon died on September 20, 2018, he was 91. Brando was born Clifton Allan Brandon in Fort Wayne, Indiana on January 26, 1927. He began his career as a second assistant director and gained his first experience as a production manager on ‘The Errol Flynn Theatre’ (1956-1957). He went on to work on films including “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” (1964) and “The Mechanic” (1972). He was a production supervisor on the 1972 Euro-western “Chato’s Land”.

Recording artist and actor Gus Backus has died. The native American died on February 21, 2019 after a long illness in Germering near Bavaria, Germany. Backus was 81 years old. In Germany, hea singer in the 1960s and 1970s, among others, with hits such as ‘Brauner Bär und weiße Taube’, ‘Da sprach der alte Häuptling der Indianer’ and ‘Der Mann im Mond’ were famous recordings. Born in Long Island, New York under the name Donald Edgar Backus on September 12, 1937, the singer came to Wiesbaden in the mid-50s as a US soldier. In addition to several chart successes in Europe, Backus also had engagements as an actor. He had his most famous appearance in the Austrian comedy film "Unsere tollen Tanten" (1961) with his ‘Sauerkraut Polka’. He was also a member of the American singing group The Dell-Vikings whose big hit was “Whispering Bells in 1957. Backus appeared as Fryer in the 1969 German TV western “Pistolen-Jenny”

Cuban dancer, actress Chelo Alonso has passed away at her son’s Mentana, Italy home on February 20, 2019, at the age of 85. Alonso was born Isabel Apolonia García Hernández in Central Lugareño, Camagüey, Cuba on April 10, 1933. She emerged as a new exotic dancing talent at the Folies Bergère in Paris and was billed as the "new Josephine Baker", who had also performed and become famous at the Folies. Alonso was billed as the "Cuban H-Bomb", and mixed Afro-Cuban rhythms from her homeland with "bump and grind". She was first noticed internationally in the 1959 film, Nel segno di Roma (Sheba and the Gladiator), which starred Anita Ekberg and Georges Marchal. Owing to a particularly erotic dance number, her picture and name became more prominent on the movie's publicity posters than either of the two leads, much to Ekberg's dismay. After the death of her husband in 1986, Alonso moved to the city of Siena in Tuscany, Italy. She retired from film and started a cat-breeding business, as well as a four-star hotel. Alonso appeared in three Euro-westerns: “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” (1966) as Mrs. Mondrega/Stevens; “Run, Man Run” (1967) as Dolores and “Night of the Serpent” (1968) also as Dolores.

British supporting and character actor Pat Gorman passed away in October, 2018. His passing was mentioned in the last Equity Magazine. Gorman, was one of England's busiest background actors from the early 1960s to the late 90s. He appeared on The Saint, Adam Adamant Lives!, Doomwatch, Fawlty Towers, I, Claudius, The Tomorrow People, Blake's 7, Minder and The Bill, to name but a few. Film credits included The Elephant Man and the 1989 version of Batman. Gorman also played the Killer in the BBC series The Nightmare Man.Gorman appeared as a sentry in the 1973 British TV Euro-western 'Hawkeye, the Patfinder'.

Italian model, actress, singer Marisa Solinas died in Rome, Italy on February 12, 2019. He was 77. Born Marisa Anna Solinas on May 30, 1941 in Genoa, Liguria, Italy she was the sister of singer actress Maria Sole (Maria Vittoria Solinas). Marisa made her film debut as Rosy in 1968’s “Garter Colt” starring the late Nicoletta Machiavelli. She would go on to appear in over 30 films. As a singer she debuted with "Devi Impar", a piece which was also made into a widespread film in the circuit of cinebox, the forerunner of video clips. In 1973 she posed nude for the camera of Gina Lollobrigida who immortalized her as a model for her book "Italia mia". Solinas also graced for the cover of Playman. One of her last appearances was in the successful film by Alex Infascelli "Almost Blue", in 2000, based on the homonymous novel of Carlo Lucarelli. Marisa was married to Italo Panone and is the mother of David Panone. Solinas appeared in four Euro-westerns: “Garter Colt” (1967) as Rosy; “A Colt in the Hand of the Devil” also 1967 as Maya; “Killer, Adios” also 1968 as Sheila Simpson and “Blindman” (1971) as Margherita.

Italian film and voice actress Miranda Bonansea died in Rome, Italy on February 10, 2019. He was 92. Born in Mondovì, Italy on October 31, 1926 she was one the most famous actresses of the thirties in Italy, and then became active as a radio and dubbing actress, particularly known for being the Italian voice of June Allyson, Shirley Temple, Marilyn Monroe, and Judy Garland. She was married from 1952 to 1962 with Italian singer Claudio Villa, from whom she had his son Mauro. Miranda was the Italian voice of Ruth Buzzi in Terence Hill’s 1990 film “Lucky Luke”.

Dick Miller, a prolific screen actor best known for his role as Murray Futterman in the 1984 classic horror film “Gremlins,” has died. He was 90. His career spanned more than 60 years, Miller made hundreds of on screen appearances, beginning in the 1950s with legendary director and producer Roger Corman. It was then that he starred as Walter Paisley – a character the actor would reprise throughout his career – in the cult classic “A Bucket of Blood,” before going on to land roles on projects such as “The ‘Burbs,” “Fame” and “The Terminator.” Dick wrote the story for the Euro-western “Four Rode Out” (1970) directed by John Peyser it starred Sue Lyon and Pernell Roberts.
