Italian director, writer and actor and voice dubber Carlo Croccolo died in his home town of Naples, Campania, Italy on October 12, 2019. He was 92 years-old. Croccolo started his career in the 1949 comedy film “I pompieri di Viggiù” sppearing with the great Italian comedian Totò. He would then go on to appear in over a hundred films. He won a David di Donatello in 1989 for his interpretation of “'O re”, the historical film by Luigi Magni. He was known to Euro-western fans under the pseudonyms Lucky Moore and Charlie Foster and Carlo Veo as he directed, wrote and acted in four westerns: “The Sheriff was a Lady” (1964) as Sheriff Mickey Stanton; “A Fistful of Songs” (1966) [as writer Carlo Veo; “Black Killer” (1971) as Deputy Fred which he also directed as Lucky Moore, and co-wrote as Charlie Foster; “Gunman of 100 Crosses” (1971) as Slim which he also directed as Lucky Moore, and wrote.
Czech director Vojtěch Jasný died in Prague on November 16, 2019. He was 93. From the 1950s, Jasny made some 50 movies in Czechoslovakia and later in the West when he emigrated after the 1968 Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia. His most famous film, “All My Good Countrymen,” from 1968, about the brutal changes in the country under communism, was banned in his homeland. It won the best director award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1969. He also won a Cannes special jury prize for his 1963 film, “The Cassandra Cat.” In the 1980s, Jasny settled in the United States, lecturing at Columbia University. He later returned home. He directed the 1965 Euro-western TV film “Magnetické vlny lécí”.

Brazilian actress Esmerlinda Barros has died she just celebrated her 75th birthday on September 4. Born in Ilhéus, Bahia, Brazil, a mulatto, Esmerlinda started as a dancer in the nightclub shows of Carlos Machado aka "The King of the Night". She appeared in the local Renaissance Club’s beauty contest in 1964 where the winner goes on to appear in the Miss Brazil contest. Many feel she finished second in the Renaissance Club contest because of her professional status as a performer. Barros attracted enough attention to be offered film roles in Brazilian and Italian films and television novellos. While in Italy she was called Esmeralda Barros and appeared in six Euro-westerns but her most remembered role was as Eva the savage jungle girl in "Kong Island" (1968) with Brad Harris. Later she appeared in the July 1976 edition of the Brazilian Playboy. After her career ended she returned to Brazil and as of 2011 was a grandmother and living happily in Rio de Janeiro. Esmeralda appeared in eight Euro-westerns: “Run, Man, Run” (1967) as a waitress; “And for a Roof a Sky Full of Stars” (1968); “God May Forgive You, Not Me” (1968) as Conchita; “Django’s Cut Rate Corpses” (1971) as Pilar; “A Man Called Django!”  (1971) as Lola; “Paid in Blood” (1971) as Zelda; “God is My Colt .45” (1972) as Paquita and
German businessman and actor Oliver Bludau died November 8, 2019. He was 47. Born on November 26, 1971. He was the grandson of actress Maria Bladau and the son of actor Jochen Bludau and actress Irmgard Bludau. Oliver appeared on stage at the Elipse Karl-May Festival from 2011-2014. He played Old Shatterhand in “Winnetou 1” (2012), “The Oil Prince” (2013) and “Among Vultures” 2014. He appeared in 2011 as Engineer Leverent in “Halfbreed”. He was also the managing director during this same time. He then turned his attention to his position as managing director of the Berghoff Group.

He then started acting at the Croatian National Theater in Varaždin and then at the Comedy Theater in Zagreb. He appeared in 32 films and television series from 1961 to 2005. Later in life he entered politics and was the HDZ s representative in the first post-communist convocation of the Croatian Parliament (1990-1992), as well as in the second Croatian Parliament (1992-1995). Sagner appeared in only one Euro-western as Bonoja in 1965's "Old Surehand".

Canadian actor, director, producer, playwright, father, friend John Evans passed away at his home in Toronto surrounded by love on September 28, 2019, following a diagnosis of cancer ten months ago. He was 76. John Franklin Evans was born in Macedonia on March 10, 1943 nd brought great precision and deep feeling to his craft. He was warm and supportive of those he worked with, but he was not known to suffer fools gladly, and if that happened to include the director, so be it. John was married to actress, singer, dancer Lyne Tremblay and the two had two daughters Michelle and Lisa. John appeared s Lyle in the 1976 Euro-SiFi-western “Welcome to Blood  City starring Jack Palance and Keir Dullea.

Born in Poblenou, Barcelona, Cataluna, Spain in 1938 she made her film debut at the age of 20 in “La muralla” (1958) directed by Luis Lucia. She would go on to appear in more than 60 film and television series. In the 1980s she turned to the theater and even started her own company ‘Romea Theater’. Padovan was also very active as a voice dubber and was best remembered as the voice of Roseanne Barr in the TV series “Roseanne”. She appeared in two Euro-westerns; “Ruthless Colt of the Gringo” 1965 in the role of Lois Duvall and “The Secret of Captain O'Hara” (1966) in the role of(Mary McQueen/Mary MacQuint.

He also sang the main themes for “Killer Caliber .32” (1967), "Killer, Adios" (1967).


Italian acrobat, stuntman, actor Roberto Dell’Acqua died in Rome, Italy on September 16, 2019. He was 73 years old. Born into a family of circus people he worked as an acrobat along with his older brothers and later transformed this talent into a career as a stuntman in films and television. He also appeared as a supporting actor in over 60 films. Sometimes billed as Robert Stevenson and Leo Widmark he appeared in over 20 Euro-westerns from “Killer Caliber .32” in 1967 to  “Buck at the Edge of Heaven” in 1991. The Italian film industry put his natural talents as an acrobat to good us as Robert was usually seen as a saloon and barroom brawler, while playing henchmen soldiers and deputies in most of the westerns he appeared.  Some of his better known Euro-westerns included “Boot Hill” (1969), “Have a Nice Funeral My Friend” (1970); “Trinity is STILL My Name” (1971); “Shanghai Joe” (1973); “The Son of Zorro” (1973); “Keoma” (1975) and “Buddy Goes West”.

He had over 65 film and TV roles and appeared in several DEFA and TV films among which were four Euro-westerns; as a watchman in “The Falcon’s Trail”; a bandit in “White Wolves” (1969); the Alcalde in televisions “Prairie Scout in Mexico” (1987); and a role in TV’s “Karl May”(1992). Gerd was married to the architect Kerstin Döring.

This page is our personal hall of fame. A reminder to us all that even though considered a B-genre, Spaghetti Westerns were full of great characters, played by great people. Many have passed away, and while we are young growing up re-watching all these classics, many more will probably leave us. May they be remembered. What follows, is a work-in-progress, a growing list of legends who have passed away...
