This page is our personal hall of fame. A reminder to us all that even though considered a B-genre, Spaghetti Westerns were full of great characters, played by great people. Many have passed away, and while we are young growing up re-watching all these classics, many more will probably leave us. May they be remembered. What follows, is a work-in-progress, a growing list of legends who have passed away...

German comedian and actor Karl Dall died on November 23rd at the age of 79 in Lüneburg, Germany. He failed to recover from a stroke he suffered twelve days before. Born in Emden on February 4, 1941 he was a soap opera actor and comedian and also hosted German talk shows. Karl appeared in two Euro-westerns “Apache Gold” in 1963 and “The Sheriff was a Lady” in 1964. He played saloon patrons in both films.

The Milanese actress and voice actress Laura Rizzoli died today November 23, 2020, at the age of 98. She’s remembered with the many roles of her long career. She was the voice of Ursula Andress in 1971’s “Red Sun”.

Hungarian born composer and teacher Ivan Vandor died in Venice, Italy on November 15. He was 88. Born Ivan Weisz in Pecs, Hungary on October 13, 1932 his family moved to Rome when Ivan was only 6. He began studying violin and then piano at the age of 8, and, from 1948 to 1954, was tenor sax in the group Roman New Orleans Jazz Band. He was later also member of the avant-garde groups Musica Elettronica Viva and Gruppo di Improvvisazione di Nuova Consonanza. In 1959 he graduated in Composition from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory and in 1962 he obtained Italian citizenship. He was also author of several books and essays. His compositions include one Euro-western “Django Kill” (1967) starring Tomas Milian.

German actor and voice actor Horst Schön died in Berlin, Germany on November 10, 2020. He was 94. Schön was born in Berlin on December 25, 1925 and was a film, TV and voice actor. He appeared in the 1973 DEFA western “Apaches” as Colonel Keanrey and in 1982’s “Thunder Warrior III” as Bill. As a voice actor he was the German voice of Luciano Bonanni in 1971’s “It Can be Done Amigo” with Jack Palance and Bud Spencer, the voice of Jean Louis in 1971’s “Trinity is STILL My Name”, the voice of Rik Battaglia in 1972’s “Deadly Trackes” with Richard Harrison, the voice of Fernando Rey in 1985’s “Rustlers’ Rhapsody”, Bo Svenson in “Thunder Warrior” in 1983.

Romanian theater and film actor Vladimir Găitan died on November 10, 2020. He was 73. Born on February 2, 1947 in Suceava, Romania was one of the elites of the Romanian theater. He appeared in one TV Euro-western “Burning Daylight” (1975) as the Montana Kid.


  • CIANFRIGLIA, Domenico - 5/19/1938, Anzio, Lazio, Italy – 10/26/2020, Italy

Italian stuntman Domenico Cianfriglia has died. Cianfriglia worked as a stuntman for over 30 years without appearing in any major roles. Domenico was the younger brother of Giovanni Cianfriglia aka Ken Wood. Domenico was mostly used as a villain or henchman, and later in his career his experience as a stuntman was also in demand for some major productions. For example, he took part in "Daylight" (1996) with Sylvester Stallone and in "The Phantom of the Opera" (1998) by Dario Argento. Domenico Cianfriglia died on 26 October 2020 as a result of a heart attack. He was 82 years old. Domenico appeared in 18 Euro-westerns beginning in 1967 with “Killer Kid” and ended with his final appearance in “Comin’ at Ya!” (1980).

Italian director, musician, actor, comedian, voice dubber Gigi Proietti died in Rome on his birthday November 2, 2020 from heart failure. Born in Rome in 1940 he studied law before embarking on a long and highly successful career in theater, film, TV and music in the early 1960s. Gigi was also known for his dubbing work, being the Italian voice of actors such as Roberto De Niro and Sean Connery. He also had a long association with Rome’s Globe Theater as artistic director of the summer Shakespearean festival. Proietti’s European western career included being the Italian voice of Robert Mark in “Kill or Die” (1966), Massimo Serato in “The Magnificent Texan”, Craig Hill in “15 Scaffolds for a Killer”, Gino Pernice in “The Hellbenders”, Benito Stefanelli in “Day of Anger” and Luigi Pistilli in “Death Rides a Horse” all in 1967.

Scottish actor Sean Connery died in his sleep during the night of October 30/31 in the Bahamas. He was 90. Connery rocketed to fame as James Bond and became one of the franchise’s most popular and enduring international stars. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000 and marked his 90th birthday in August. His death was confirmed by his family, according to the BBC, which notes that the actor died in his sleep while in the Bahamas. It’s believed he had been unwell for some time. His last acting role had been in Stephen Norrington’s “The League of Extraordinary Gentleman” (2003). “He revolutionized the world with his gritty and witty portrayal of the sexy and charismatic secret agent. He is undoubtedly largely responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him,” said the producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. Connery appeared in one Euro-western as the star of “Shalako” (1968) with Brigitte Bardot.

Romano Ghini, Italian actor and voice dubber died on October 25th in Rome, he was 86. Born on July 2, 1934 in Parma, Italy. He graduated from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in 1960 and worked steadily throughout the decade. He was also an announcer for Rai but at the time his contract forbade him to work as a voice actor, so he chose the pseudonym Stefano Borghesi an worked as a film dubber for the next 24-years. He then again worked steadily in front of the camera between 1994-2012. He was the Italian voice of Chris Avram in 1977’s “California” starring Giuliano Gemma.
