KÜLOWThis page is our personal hall of fame. A reminder to us all that even though considered a B-genre, Spaghetti Westerns were full of great characters, played by great people. Many have passed away, and while we are young growing up re-watching all these classics, many more will probably leave us. May they be remembered. What follows, is a work-in-progress, a growing list of legends who have passed away...

  • REYNOLDS, Burt (Burton Leon Reynolds Jr.) - 2/11/1936, Lansing, Michigan, U.S.A. - 9/6/2018, Jupiter, Florida, U.S.A.

Burt Reynolds, the ex-jock from Florida, starred in 'Deliverance' and 'Boogie Nights' but preferred making such populist, fun fare as 'Smokey and the Bandit,' 'The Cannonball Run' and 'Starting Over’ died Thursday morning September 6, 2018 at Jupiter Medical Center in Florida. Reynolds, who received an Oscar nomination when he portrayed porn director Jack Horner in Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights (1997) and was the No. 1 box-office attraction for a five-year stretch starting in the late 1970s, always with a wink, Reynolds shined in many action films (often doing his own stunts). Born in Lansing, Michigan on February 11, 1936 he appeared in three Euro-westerns: “Navajo Joe” (1966), “100 Rifles” (1969) and the TV film “Johnson County War” (2002).

Actor, screenwriter Peter Jobin died in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on August 8, 2018. He was 74. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on February 1, 1944. Peter acted on stages in London, on Broadway and in Canada. He was a founding artist of Toronto Free Theatre. Jobin appeared in over 25 film and TV projects and co-wrote, wrote, and produced another 22. Peter was a wit extraordinaire and a very intelligent guy. Jobin wrote three screenplays for the Euro-western TV series ‘The Campbells’ in 1990.


  • PICKWOAD, Michael - 7/11/1945, Windsor, Berkshire, England, U.K. - 8/27/2018, London, England, U.K.

British production designer Michael Pick died in London on August 27, 2018. Pickwoad was the visionary behind the look of Doctor Who TV series for the last seven years, has was 73 Pickwoad was the son of actor William Mervyn – who appeared in the 1966 Doctor Who story The War Machines and the theatre designer Anne Margaret Payne Cooke. He began his career in the 1970’s as an Art Director before going on to be a Production Designer in the ‘80s – one of his earliest film projects was 1987’s cult classic Withnail & I, starring Paul McGann. In 2010 Pickwoad became only the second person to become the second person to helm Doctor Who‘s art department since the series returned in 2005, replacing Edward Thomas.Michael was the production designer on the Euro-western Doctor Who episode ‘A Town Called Mercy’ filmed in Almeria, Spain’s Fort Bravo in 2012.

Canadian actor Murray Westgate, familiar to an early generation of TV viewers as Esso’s ‘Happy Motoring’ pitchman on Hockey Night In Canada, has died. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada on April 16, 1918, Westgate celebrated his 100th birthday at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. Well into his 90s, he was receiving visits from friends in the broadcast world and NHL alumni. Westgate was a radio operator in the Canadian Navy during dangerous convoy duty in the Second World War. After the war, he moved to Vancouver to work in local theatre. Murray appeared in several films and television series including the role of Joe Bourke in the 1969 Euro-western TV series “Adventures in Raibow Country. Murray died August 27, 2018.


  • RUSSELL, Barbara (Barbara E. Russell) - 6/16/1933, Black Lick, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. - 8/25/2018, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

Pittsburgh actress/comedian Barbara Russell died Saturday August 25, 208. Russell was known to Pittsburghers as half of the popular comedy team of Brockett and Barbara, with the late Don Brockett, but children nationwide knew her from “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” including the first episode, when she appeared as the eccentric Mrs. Russellite, collector of lampshades. She appeared in later episodes as herself and the voice of Mrs. Hilda Dingleborder, among other characters, and for many years she performed programs for elementary school and pre-K Pittsburghers. Russell was born on June 16, 1933 in Black Lick, Pennsylvania and appeared in one episode of the Euro-western TV series ‘Bordertown’ in 1990 as Mrs. McPherson.

José Urrutia one of the family members of the Sad Hill Organization has died. José worked as an extra in “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” while performing military service in Burgos and participated in the construction of the Langston Bridge and, above all, remained a member of his Artillery Barracks 63, while infecting for 52 years the passion among his companions and military cohorts, through the memories of the filming, celebrating and reminiscing their experiences annually. He is also seen in the upcoming documentary “Sad Hill Unearthed”.


  • PORCEL, Marisa (Marisa Luisa Porcel Montijano) - 11/15/1943, Tarzona, Zaragoza, Arigon, Spain - 8/15/2018, Madrid, Madrid, Spain

Spanish theater, film and TV actress Marisa Porcel died on August 15, 2018 in Madrid, Spain. She was 74. Porcel was the daughter of actor Pedro Porcel and actress Asunción Montijano. She started her professional activity on the stage first with her father's company and later she joined the companies successively by Isabel Garcés, the María Guerrero Theater and the Spanish Theater. By the mid-1950s she had specialized in comedy roles. Despite being a regular face of the Spanish small screen since the sixties and having intervened in films and TV series such as ‘Historias para no dormir’ (1968), ‘Cañas y barro’ (1978), her popularity came in 2000, when the producer José Luis Moreno offered to make a small humorous sketch, called Matrimoniadas, with Pepe Ruiz for his musical program on TVE ‘Noche de fiesta’. Porcel begins to play Pepa , an old curmudgeon and grumpy wife whose favorite activity is to discuss with her husband, the protester Avelino (Pepe Ruiz). The sketch reaches an unexpected success and both actors, along with the rest of the characters, begin to interpret it on stages and party halls. She is the mother of the actress of dubbing, Paloma Porcel. Porcel appeared in two Euro-westerns: as Manolita in “Sabata the Killer” 1970 with Anthony Steffen and “In the Dust of the Sun” in 1972.


  • MILLAIRE, Albert - 1/18/1935, Montréal, Quebec, Canada - 8/15/2018, Canada

Canadian theater, film, TV actor Albert Millaire has died at age 83. The actor, known for his classic roles, was diagnosed with cancer in 2000, but continued to work nonetheless. He was recognized by many older Quebecers as the image of Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville, who he played in a popular television series in 1969. He also portrayed Sir Wilfrid Laurier in a miniseries about the ex-prime minister in 1987. Millaire won the Gémeaux prize in 2014 for best supporting actor in a soap opera for his role in Mémoires vives. Millaire appeared in two Euro-western TV series: “Adventures in Rainbow Country” (1969-1970) as Roger Lemieux and “By Way of the Stars” as Renauld (1992-1993).
