This page is our personal hall of faml'e. A reminder to us all that even though considered a B-genre, Spaghetti Westerns were full of great characters, played by great people. Many have passed away, and while we are young growing up re-watching all these classics, many more will probably leave us. May they be remembered. What follows, is a work-in-progress, a growing list of legends who have passed away...

  • REUSSE, Peter - 2/15/1941, Teltow, Brandenburg, Germany- 6/11/2022, Germany

In East Germany, the actor Peter Reusse made a career for himself in films and on stage. In the 1960s and 1970s he became known as the “James Dean of the East”. After reunification he played alongside Iris Berben, Nadja Tiller and Charles Aznavour. He died on June 11, 2022, at the age of 81. After studying at the Babelsberg Film School, he acted in various theaters in the GDR. In 1970 he became a permanent member of the ensemble at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. He then went on to appear in nearly 80 films and TV appearances including one TV Euro-western: ‘Alaska-Kids großer Coup’ 1979 as the Alaska Kid.

Czech actor and drummer Stanislav Fišer died at the age of 90 in Prague, Czech Republic on June 11, 2022. He was 90. He performed in more than a hundred roles in comedies and chamber musicals at the Municipal Theaters of Prague. But he celebrated his greatest success in dubbing. He lent his voice to Inspector Clousea, and especially to the Apache Chief Winnetou. In 2004, Fischer underwent surgery for laryngeal cancer. He lost his atypical voice at the time and had to use a special electronic speaker to communicate. However, Fišer did not forget about the ABC Home Theater, so he returned to his stage in several silent roles, which he enjoyed even after his eighties. Stanislav was the Czech voice of Pierre Brice in all the Winnetou films and also was the voice of Gojko Mitic in “Osceola” and Tecumseh” along with being the Czech voice of Marco Zuanelli in “Once Upon a Time in the West” and “Josef Egger in “Fistful of Dollars”.

Spanish dubbing and voice actress Rosa Guiñón died in Spain on June 5, 2022. She was 90. Guiñón was one of the most important professionals in her specialty in Spanish. Her voice remains in the memory of several generations, having been the usual dubber of Barbra Streisand, Julie Andrews, Natalie Wood, Audrey Hepburn and above all, Meryl Streep. She dubbed several Euro-western actresses from Karin Dor, Elke Sommer and Dahlia Lavi in the “Winnetou films to Rosalba Neri, Adriana Ambessi, Brigitte Bardot, Carroll Baker, Cristina Galbo, Daniela Giordana, Giovanna Ralli and Lucretia Love. American film and TV actor Brad Johnson died of complications from COVID-19 on February 18, 2022. He was 62. Born in Tucson, Arizona on October 24, 1959 the son of a horse trainer, Brad grew up with a passion and love for the outdoors, and his younger years would see him hunting and competing in rodeo whenever he had the chance," his obituary recalled. "Brad started his professional rodeo career in 1984, and the circuit would lead him to Dallas, Texas, where he would meet the love of his life, Laurie. They were married for 35 very full years. While working the rodeo circuit, he attracted the attention of commercial talent scouts and started booking work, soon becoming the Marlboro Man for a period of time. This led to an acting career in such films as“Always”, “Flight of the Intruder”, “Philadelphia Experiment II”, “The Birds II: Land's End”, “Rough Riders”, the Left Behind ‘Riverworld’ among others. Brad appeared in the 2007 U.S.A., Bulgarian television co-production ‘Copperhead’ as Wild Bill Longley.

According to the Internet website Doctor Who Guide British actor Jeremy Young died on April 9, 2022. He was 88. Born John H. Young in Liverpool, England in 1934 he appeared in almost 100 films and TV appearances from 1958 till 2003. He was married to actress Kate O’Mara from 1971 – 1976 and was the father of set designer Dickon Young [1964-2012]. Jeremy appeared in the 1959 British western TV series ‘The Cabin in the Clearing’.

Italian supporting actor Marino Masè died in Rome, Italy on May 28, 2022. He was 83. Masè was born in Trieste, Venezia Giulia, Italy on March 21, 1939 and began his career on stage and began his film career by participating in the film “The Rape of the Sabine Women” by Richard Pottier. He had a small role in Luchino Visconti's “Il Gattopardo”, released in 1963, he also had a role in Jean-Luc Godard's “Les Carabiniers”. Marino appeared in three Euro-westerns: ‘Questa sera parla Mark Twain’ (TV) – 1965 (Charles Langdon); “The 5-Man Army – 1969 (train engineer/Mexican soldier); Zorro – 1975 (Miguel de la Serna).

As Bishop Rossbauer, Horst Sachtleben was an integral part of the ARD series "Um Himmels Willen". His career took him from the theater stage in front of the camera to behind the microphone - as a voice for others. The actor died in Munich, Germany on May 24, 2022 at the age of 91. Born in Berlin on September 24, 1930. In addition to his role as Bishop Rossbauer, Sachtleben was also involved with guest appearances in other TV productions. For example, he was seen in "Tatort" and in the series "Der Alte" and "Der Kommissar". The actor's voice went on to have an international career - as a dubbing actor, Sachtleben lent it to Peter Falk as investigating Inspector Columbo and to Jim Broadbent in the role of Professor Horace Slughorn in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". Sachtleben also was the voice behind Niles, the butler in the sitcom "The Nanny". German actor Rainer Basedow died in Salzburg, Austria on May 15, five days short of his 84th birthday. Basedow was born on May 20, 1938 in Mühlhausen, Saxony, Prussia, Germany and grew up in the former GDR, graduated from high school in Magdeburg in 1965, but was not allowed to study because of "political unreliability". After fleeing to the West, he first began studying to become a teacher in Braunschweig, but later switched to acting and moved to Munich. From 1976 to 1995 he was a permanent member of the Munich Laughing and Shooting Society, with which he gave 19 tours and around 4000 performances. He celebrated his greatest successes in the 1970s. In 1974 he played, among other things, the sergeant Dimpfelmoser in "Räuber Hotzenplotz" alongside Bond villain Gert Fröbe. Film roles include "Drei Männer im Schnee", "Ein dicker Hund", "Starke Zeiten" und "Schwere Jungs". Basedow was seen on television in "Derrick", "Tatort", "Der Alte", "Der Bulle von Tölz" and many other productions. He also acted as voice actor in a wide variety of films: Among other things, he lent his voice to John Belushi in "The Blues Brother". But his distinctive voice was also heard in Disney productions. Among other things, as Warty Pumbaa in "The Lion King" or as Wayne Knight in "Toy Story 2". Basedow appeared as a miner in the 1976 Euro-western “Montana Trap” (aka Potato Fritz).

German director and screenwriter Ulrich Weiß died in Ferch, Brandenburg, Germany on May 3, 2022. He was 80. Weiß attended elementary school from 1948 to 1956 and advanced high school from 1956 to 1960 in Klingenthal. He became an assistant cameraman for a TV station in East Germany. From 1965 to 1968 he studied camera and then directing at the Academy for Film and Television in Potsdam , where he graduated in 1970. In 1971, Weiß became a director at DEFA 's studio for short films in the Effekt group led by Karl Gass . Among other things, he made a film about the censorship of Eisenstein 's battleship Potemkin in the Weimar Republic. He directed and wrote screenplays for eleven films between 1969 and 1992. Among them was one western Blauvogel (Blue Bird) in 1979.

British actor Dennis Waterman died in a Spanish hospital on May 8, 2022. He 74. Born in Chapman, London, England on February 24, 1948. He who starred in the TV shows Minder, The Sweeney and New Tricks – has died at the age of 74. He was best known for his role as bodyguard Terry McCann in ITV’s Minder. He has a showbiz career that spanned 60 years. He was known for singing the theme songs to many of his shows and was caricatured by David Walliams in Little Britain. He married four times. He left his second wife, with whom he had two daughters, for the actor Rula Lenska. The couple divorced in 1998 and Waterman married Pam Flint in 2011. His daughter Hannah Waterman played Laura Beale in EastEnders and guest starred in New Tricks in 2007. Waterman appeared in only one Euro-western as Jamie Lowrie in 1971’s “Man in the Wilderness” starring Richard Harris.
