The book is divided into two main parts: historical and interpretative. The historical part is dedicated to historical horizons of the Italian western from the period of Italian silent cinema to 1964 and also to reinterpretation and revision of the role of A Fistful of Dollars (1964) by Sergio Leone in the context of this popular genre. The following intepretative part of the book has four chapters. The first one is dedicated to religious symbolism and Christian attributes used by Italian directors in their westerns. The second one is dedicated to sociocultural intertextuality and iconographic anachronisms in the Italian westerns. The third one is dedicated to various genre combinations, cultural elements and thematic variations. The fourth one is dedicated to film music and its contextual connotations with Italian westerns. Also included is a longer interview with Giancarlo Santi.
