One of the first paella/spaghetti westerns, and the first one produced by the Balcázar Studios. Woods is a gunman who wins 5000 $ in a poker game and also becomes co-owner of a ranch. A corrupt landowner tries to chase all small farmers from the valley. This early euro western is a modest production, saved only by some nice location work and a flamboyant performance by the great Fernando Sancho as a rascal with a heart of gold, but still as trustworthy as a rattlesnake.

Typical early SW which has a quite naive story and storytelling, here with seemingly endless and often badly edited fights with fists and guns. Like several others of those mainly Spanish genre contributions it contains on the other hand some good location shooting. Robert Woods in his first (and untypical) SW lead seems to imitate Giuliano Gemma, only that 5000 Dollars on an Ace was made before the Ringo films.
