German film director and screenwriter Hans Kratzert died on August 15, 2023. He was 83. Hnas was born in Heerwegen, Silesia, Germany on February 3, 1940. He  acted in theater plays during high school and then tried to enroll in film school in Potsdam-Babelsberg. He was refused because he was too young, but after serving in the military in 1960, he successfully enrolled in the department of directing. He graduated four years later and worked as an assistant director. In 1968, he made his debut with the crime drama “Mord am Montag” (1968). He soon got an offer from the German studio DEFA to direct films for children and became one of the most successful directors of that genre with “Wir kaufen eine Feuerwehr”, 1970; “Hans Röckle und der Teufel”, 1974. He directed the German Western “Tecumseh” (1972) and the war drama “Am Ende der Welt” (1975). After that he devoted the rest of his career to making films for children, and the last film he made was “Der Drache Daniel” (1989). As the DEFA studio’s time was near its end, he began directing documentaries and videos for smaller production houses. When the Berlin wall came down so did the end of his career.

This page is our personal hall of faml'e. A reminder to us all that even though considered a B-genre, Spaghetti Westerns were full of great characters, played by great people. Many have passed away, and while we are young growing up re-watching all these classics, many more will probably leave us. May they be remembered. What follows, is a work-in-progress, a growing list of legends who have passed away...

Glasgow-born actor John Cairney died September 7, 2023. He appeared in the films “Jason and the Argonauts” and the Titanic drama “A Night to Remember”. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on February 16, 1930, and briefly attended art college but dropped out to pursue the life of an actor. After drama school, where he met his first wife Sheila, he began a successful career in the theatre. He was in the British premiere of Arthur Miller's The Crucible in Bristol and played Hamlet at Glasgow's Citizens Theatre. His most famous film role came in 1963's adventure Jason and The Argonauts, where his character is crushed to death by the living bronze statue, Talos. He lived for many years in New Zealand with his second wife Alannah. The couple moved to Glasgow in 2008, where Cairney returned to the canvas, picking up his paint brushes and finding fresh acclaim for his paintings. He is survived by Alannah and five children from his first marriage. Cairney appeared as Grandpa Scott in the Canadian, French, New Zealand produced 1993 TV series “White Fang”.

Prolific Italian director, actor and film industry executive, whose works comprise powerful political drama “Sacco and Vanzetti” about the Massachusetts trial and execution in 1927 of accused Italian anarchists Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, has died at his home in Rome on September 6, 2023. He was 93. Born in Genoa, Liguria, Italy on February 22, 1930, Montaldo was still a Turin university student when, in 1950, director Carlo Lizzani gave him a role in the film “Achtung Banditi!.” Montaldo then moved to Rome in 1954, where he worked as a journalist for Italian newspaper Il Tempo and after a few years decided to pursue a filmmaking career. In 1965. That year Montaldo directed the second unit of Pontecorvo’s masterpiece “The Battle Of Algiers” and In 1982, Montaldo directed the Emmy Award-winning mini-series “Marco Polo,” co-produced by Italy and China which played on NBC in the U.S. Later in his career Montaldo was appointed he first president of RAI Cinema, the film arm of Italian state broadcaster RAI, a position he held between 1999 and 2004. Giuliano was an assistant director on 1975’s “The Genius” starring Terence Hill.

Veteran German voice actor and voice dubber Jürgen Kluckert died in his home near Potsdam, German on August 16, 2023. He was 79. Born in Groß Nossin, Provinz Pommern, Poland on December 29, 1943, Kluckert lent his voice to many iconic characters, including the radio play hero Benjamin Blümchen since 1994 and Mr. Krabs from the series "SpongeBob SquarePants". He voiced such Hollywood actors such as Chuck Norris, Danny Glover and Morgan Freeman. Kluckert's voice can also be heard in video games like "League of Legends" and anime like "Dragon Ball." Jürgen’s voice can be heard in several of the German translated Spaghetti westerns such as: “Full House for the Devil” - 1969 [German voice of Paolo Gozlino]; “Hey Amigo! A Toast to Your Death” -1970 [German voice of Marco Zuanelli]; “Osceola” – 1971 [German voice of Milan Beli]; “The Long Ride of Revenge” – 1972 [German voice of Wirt]; “Apaches” – 1973 [German voice of Boubacar Touré] “Blood Red” – 1989 [German voice of Giancarlo Giannini]; “Lucky Luke” (TV) 1991 [German voice of Steven G.
